The World Day of Prayer for Creation is celebrated on September 1 each year. This day honors God's act of creation and is observed by many Christian denominations, including the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church. It serves as a time for prayer, reflection, and stewardship of the earth, recognizing the beauty and value of creation. The observance is part of a larger Season of Creation that runs from September 1 to October 4, emphasizing the importance of caring for the environment and God's creation.

 Pope Leo XIV enabled our liturgical celebrations of this observance by promulgating the new ‘Mass for the Care of Creation’, recently added to the Missal. For the first time, we have a Mass with a dedicated set of creation-related prayers and biblical readings that make our September celebrations much more meaningful (while also being possible to celebrate it at other times throughout the year). It is a precious gift.
